Boreal 360 VR

A 360 viewer of various scenes with interactive information panels. Viewers can transition between scenes.

Overview

The Boreal 360 VR Video viewer was an open sourced product designed by NAIT as a way to showcase information in a more futuristic informative way. The system itself is very simple, keep your gaze on certain panels for long enough and they open. If the user keep their gaze on a play button long enough the designated media will play. This made it easier for older non tech savvy clients to pick up and use.

Each panel has a panel focus launcher in addition to their individual behaviors. The panel focus launcher is used to hide and launch other panels when this panel is interacted with. There is also some additional cleanup that is done here based on what type of panel is closed. For example, a video is closed and stops buffering when the panel is closed.

Panels also have a panel focus manager. If the focus is on this panel, the focus manager recognizes this and begins incrementing a count. Once this count reaches a threshold, the panel will launch. There is also a version of this focus manager that only increments when the panel is not in focus. This is useful for larger panels that open displaying information, only hiding said information when the user is not focusing on the panel anymore.
